Oman Arab Bank (“OAB”) is passionate about innovation and has hence created several platforms to promote innovation, strengthen the Fintech ecosystem in Oman, promote entrepreunership, and accelerate OAB's digital transformation agenda. In January 2019, OAB launched its first of-its-kind Innovation Hub hackathon platform to set the stage for students, professionals/Fintechs and employees to collaborate and develop new and innovative solutions (in the form of a prototype) around specific themes that drive value for OAB and its partners in just 24hrs. Leading up to the Innovation Hub event, OAB run a series of workshops to help participants prepare and develop their innovative ideas. The winning student teams will win a big cash prize and join a 6-month paid internship programme to develop their POCs into solutions that will be rolled out to the market with the support and guidance of internal subject matter experts and mentors. The top students will be offered employment at the Bank. The winning Fintech team will be incubated in OAB's Innovation Lab, and will work together with OAB's Innovation and Business teams to introduce their solutions to the market. In January 2020, OAB also launched the first-of-its-kind Innovation Lab in Oman, a sandbox that was inspired by visits to some of the tops Innovation Labs globally: Harvard University's Innovation Lab and Barclays Rise Labs. The OAB 'Simplifly' Lab is at the forefront of innovation, where Fintech Companies, students and employees will collaborate to develop innovative Proof of Concepts and solutions that will create value for the Bank's customers and elevate their banking experience.
