New virtual programme to support SMEs

24 July 2021

The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) has launched a virtual programme to support SMEs. The programme called ‘Tazeez’ - or Boost - aims to train 37 people from the institutions incubated in ASMED and the National Business Centre, an official said.

He said the programme will be for a month and will include training in project management, leadership skills, marketing skills, technology skills and digital transformation.

Talking about the authority’s efforts, he said, “We are still receiving applications from small and medium enterprises to register in the on-the-job training initiative to employ jobseekers in the institutions in order to enhance their competitive capabilities in accordance with the specific requirements."

The initiative targets all owners of SMEs and jobseekers registered with the Ministry of Labour or according to the institution’s nomination of those it deems appropriate for training, he added.

“The Ministry of Labour will bear the cost of the monthly training grant for trainees. In the first year 100 per cent of the grant will be paid; a Bachelor’s graduate will receive RO500 per month, a diploma graduate RO400 per month, and a General Education Diploma graduate RO300 per month. In the second year 50 per cent will be paid.“

ASMED has urged business owners to take advantage of the on-the-job training initiative.
