Taskit Raises Pre-Seed Funding
Taskit, the task-based marketplace, has completed its pre-seed funding round with a group of Omani angel investors which will enable the product to launch into the market this year.
As Covid-19 recovery starts in Oman, technology and digital transformation is at the forefront, promoting the diversification of businesses and driving new innovations in line with Oman’s 2040 vision.
Habib Al Lawati, CEO of Taskit, mentioned: "Our goal at Taskit is to fundamentally attract and recruit service providers in order to build a pipeline of services that users can choose from in a matter of clicks. The inspiration behind the technology and product came from a gap in the market for a well-designed on demand task-based application that responds to the current environment and opportunities for economic impact. Starting with Oman, we will be launching our app in mid-September, where we plan on covering salons, delivery operators, and in-home services such as maintenance to start with."
Unemployment and skills shortage is high on the agenda and Taskit believes that through an open, fair, and technically advanced proposition, the platform can attract many skilled professionals and service providers to build their client base in an intuitive way.
Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable change in the region’s service market, with a growing number of service-based businesses and an increasing demand for these services.
Taskit were on a spotlight list post the Rapid Innovation Accelerator programme delivered by Plexal, on behalf of the UK-Oman Digital Hub in Muscat. Henry Howard from the British Embassy Muscat said: "The UK-Oman Digital Hub, a British Embassy Muscat initiative, launched the ‘Rapid Innovation Accelerator’ with Plexal and Imperial College London to help start-ups overcome the direct and indirect challenges posed by Covid-19, and launch products into the Omani market. We are hugely excited to see that come to fruition with the launch of Taskit – one of the most promising start-ups of its cohort. Taskit will open up a whole new platform to connect customers and service providers, with an angle to promote SMEs and will become the latest in a growing line-up of Omani businesses making its place in an up-and-coming digital ecosystem."
Taskit will be available to download from both App Store and Google Play Store. Sign up to Taskit’s newsletter below for regular updates.
