14.4 per cent increase in number of SMEs

The total number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered in the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development till the end of January 2021 stood at 49,337, compared to 43,134 in January 2020, an increase of 14.4 per cent, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Among the governorates, Muscat topped the list with 33.6 per cent of the total registered SMEs till the end of January 2021, followed by North Batinah with 15.7 per cent, Dakhliyah with 12.6 per cent, Dhofar with 8.3 per cent, and 29.8 per cent for the remaining governorates.

The number of SMEs registered in Muscat was 16,583 at the end of January 2021, followed by North Batinah with 7,750, Dakhliyah with 6,214, Dhofar with 4,111, South Batinah with 3,704, North Sharqiyah with 3,309, South Sharqiyah with 2,938, Dhahira with 2,839 and Buraimi with 1,052 registered SMEs. 

The number of SMEs registered in the Governorate of Al Wusta was 652 and 185 in Musandam, the lowest among all governorates.
